I finished a new jigsaw puzzle and I got the picture rail hooks. Ideally I will get things hung in the bedroom and livingroom in the next few days.

I have applied for more jobs, but nothing on that yet. May also get the budget finalized this week.

The current plan is to go to Lubbock over Spring Break, so that will be half of that task done (not really a task, a goal, enjoyable hanging with family goal).

Knocking 'em out

I refiled the insurance claims, I got the 2011 New Year's card to family out before the 15th (so I'm counting it), and I have fixed the curtains in my bedroom.

I also mended 3 items of clothing, so close to finishing that one off. And I planted quite a few bulbs before the winter freeze, so the flowerbeds in front are a step closer to being done.

#72 - fixed E's closet doors.

E and I both have sliding closet doors with no bottom track. Mine had handles, E's did not. I want to replace mine with an accordion door, so I thought I'd switch our doors so he at least had handles. The problem? The tracks on the top were 2 different sizes. So I had to take off the wheels and then put his wheels on my doors. Well it's not perfect (the hardware did not match exactly, so screws would not go all the way in), but they are up and working. WHew!

End of the first list and a start to a new one

I never really got back around to this list in 2010. I moved in July and just could not get settled enough to take this back on, so some things will just stay around as I have decided to start 2011 with a new 101 list and hopefully new energy to stay on top of it.

I ended up completing 56 of the 101 things. I learned quite a bit. Ongoing things are harder to complete and stay with, lots of things became moot once we moved.

So tomorrow, 1/1/11, I start off on the new list.

Goals for this week

20) Dentist - I was going to put this off until after the move, but I think maybe should do it while still fully under insurance.

rated even MORE songs and culled all that I had rated as not wanted. I have rated more than 1/4 of the iPod, but sadly so much more to go.

Also listed the clothes dryer with a donation organization since attempts to sell it have resulted in no leads.

The new house is getting painted Monday and Tuesday, so I am marking that as done.

Went through a bag of winter clothes and culled half of it. Now to get some of those things listed on ebay along with the 2-3 other bags I have of culled stuff.

I do have one bag all ready to go to the thrift store, but it has been raining the last 2 days. Maybe tomorrow moring I can drop it off.

I feel so wiped when I get home this week that not much is getting done. I need to synch up my ipod so I will have more unranked music on it to make progress on that task. I need to list more clothes for sale on ebay, but keep forgetting to take the pictures.

I am checking the library info online to see if some books are in and if they are, we will make another trip to the library tonight.

Maybe on Saturday I can do some work on the Grandmother book and get that to my brother in a week or two.

That should be enough for the week.

More than a month

I am marking the list items that will just not get done. I am marking them by making them yellow-ish. There are 16 of them.

I am moving, so that is one very big thing that is not on the list that is happening. If I really want to be accurate, I could add all the following:

- select a school
- buy a house
- get houses fixes done
- get paint selected
- get painting done
- register for school
- ~~find specialist drs.~~
- buy a car
- ~~buy a refrigerator~~
- sell/get rid of dryer
- sell/get rid of E's bed

and as you can see, about half of those are done. So 11 of the 16, I am considering replaced. I will work to get 5 more items added soon.

Life interrupted

Obviously, I got very sidetracked from this project. That's life. Sometimes there twist or turn we weren't expecting. End result is that a large number of items on the list will not get accomplished, some are not even relevant anymore.

I am going to take a stab at replacing things that have been abandoned, but am unsure with all that will be going on in my life over the next 6 months if I will be able to see this project through. I must say, I have enjoyed it, and even if I stopped right now, completing just what I have feels like a great accomplishment. Learning what things were difficult was also good insight.

So stay tuned for an updated list and a possibly very active final 6 month.

Just 1/3 way through the list. Now I see the dangers on the ongoing things. Sure habits may get changed, but the sense of accomplishment is not acheived. sigh. I will take a hard look at some of the other one-time tasks and see what I can knock out.

A month gone by: 101 list

1 - All documents are gathered, lawyer has been called. I have delayed things so long, that now the Dr. report has to be re-done.
18 - Made 3 in May and both so far in June.
27 - 2 visits so far in June
28 - not done yet, but 2 of the 3 are mere months away from disappearing. The final one is a miles card and I am using it for everything at the moment and shifting to making big payments each mothe rather than using cash for daily purchases. Takes a bit of a mindshift. It should be down to no carryover balance early in 2010.
32 - brought 3times last week and again today. I'll make it 2 or three this week also.
41 - I have 2 sets to donate (work to church, casual to thrift store)
66 - put one more in
80 - YES did this and am still putting away or tossing all the loose stuff that seems to not have a home, mostly papers.
86 - YES went down Memorial Day weekend and started his introduction to our capital. Lincoln Memorial, 3 Smithsoneans, the Mall and Ethiopian food were enjoyed. Saw wonderful friends also which was the real highlight.
96 - well it is not the Fall, but just this weekend I got to do a nice walk, so I am counting it.
100 - also this weekend. I had my camera along and got to take pictures of my favorite city.

I have never been a daily journaler for any long period, so this experiment has become more and more inconsistent as time goes on. Since it is only for me and not followed, I guess it doesn't matter, but I do lose the attention to the tasks when I am not documenting it.

Not much more has left the house since the last post.

It's taught me a lot along the way, and some of the items on the list I now see as unimportant. The task does take mindfullness though and that requires daily or near daily attention.

How was I reporting on week 51 on 12/15? hmm, Obviously the weekly count got off somewhere. Well let's ignore that. Week of 12/15 is week 50, week of 12/22 is week 51, and the last 3 days of the year are week 52.

ok. Now the update:

Sadly, nothing permenant left my house this week. I am still working to offload some bigger items and I am poised to at least attempt for a big dump of stuff in January. With Christmas 4 days away and crazy schedules for 2 weeks solid, I doubt much will be cleared out before then. Nothing would please me more than to surprisingly report back with a long list before 2009.

As for the list:

1 - appt scheduled which is the last thing for this stage, so appt is 2nd wk of Jan - then a couple weeks for a report, then I can meet with the lawyer again and hopefully move on to the next stage: submission of docs to the court and fingerprinting.

26 - failed on coffee
27 - failed on the library for Dec - we bought books at a rummage sale and he gets 6 from school to read each week, so he has had no interest

It is kinda ridiculous how fast I built up my library without really listening to the music, now I listen to music less so it is taking a long time to plow through it all. I will only reach my 50% goal if I do some massive ranking binges, I think I may need to plan to do that on plane trips and also commit to listening to music every weekend. I miss music in the house. With E it is always the tv or PS2 on and making noise. Maybe I can slowly shift some of that noise time to music. Unfortunately with him, he listens to the same 10-12 songs over and over and is really resistant to listening to new things.

1 - I had the meeting with the lawyer, got 3 new forms to complete, received the 2nd of 3 reference letters I need, and got a form I need to send in with payment for the homestudy.

I was on vacation and away from home, but still managed some things.

random things floating around in my head for a bit

You can see from my sidebar that there are a couple of environmental blogs on there, specifically 2 that follow some 2007 experiments in people decreasing their carbon footprint. From those 2 blogs (I went back to the beginning of both and am still reading through them - I am to May 2007 in both), I've read several articles, been led to other blogs, read countless comments, and have tried through it all to not get overwhelmed to to pull a few ideas and a couple of specifics of things that might work in my life.

My life right now is maybe not at the best place to trying anything new, it is certainly not the time to do something big. There will be no manifestos about composting, or eating only locally, or spinning my own yarn. But, I do think that some things will actually mesh well with my life at the moment - and might even help out with finances, cycling anxiety, and de-cluttering most of all.

That is a lot of lead up for just 2 items:

1) I am not buying myself any clothes for a year - July 2008 - July 2009, no clothes for me bought by me. Gifts, ok. free, ok. sewn myself with fabric and patterns I already own, ok.

For those that know me, you know I have an abundance of clothes. I have more than I need. I have more than I want to store. I am hoping this year will result in my sorting through and slimming down my current 2.5 closets and 5 dresser drawers of clothes (most of which get swapped out once a year to the next seasons clothes).

2) Nothing new that is big.

Yeah, I know that is vague, but here is what I mean. E was ready for a new bike, we got a hand-me-down for free from friends. I need a new tv stand becuase what I am using is not a tv stand and will probably break soon - I am getting one free from a friend in a week or so. If it takes up a significant amount of space, or will cost a significant amount of money (I am leaning toward over $100) - I am making every effort to get it used.

Our DVD player just started acting up, so that will be next to try and find.

So there they are 2 little things I am trying - to keep stuff out of the landfills, reduce my unneeded consumerism, shift what my son sees as how we do things, save money, de-clutter my life, and hopefully begin a bigger change in my lifestyle.

31 - finally did this. For most sales if I mail media, I am making money. Media requires standing on line, so I must plan PO trips effectively. Mailing from APC will lose money unless they paid for expedited shipping.
74 - removed extra bedding and towels from front closet and they are in new space bag underbed storage now. That should allow some of the shelf removal to begin in the closet re-design.
